Jaguar is poised to launch the world’s first electric-drive luxury saloon, a version of the next-gen XJ, after the European Union last week agreed a loan for new green technology.

The breakthrough Jag XJ four-door will use similar tech to the Vauxhall Ampera/Chevy Volt. Those cars run on electric power from batteries that are charged mainly by hooking up to the grid, but are also capable of being recharged on the move by a small-capacity engine.

Jaguar’s goals for the ‘Limo Green’ are an electric range of 30 miles, fuel economy of 57mpg, CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km and a top speed of 112mph. The firm has committed to start production in 2011, a year after the next-generation XJ is launched.

Jaguar’s alloy body technology should ensure a low kerb weight and the electric XJ’s powertrain is being developed in conjunction with British engineering brains at Lotus Engineering, MIRA and Caparo.

The £307 million loan cleared last week by the European Investment Bank will boost JLR’s green investments to £800m as it bids to cut overall emissions by 25 per cent by 2012.

Cash will also be sunk into developing full hybrids, micro-hybrids, small-capacity diesel engines and ‘soft-turbocharged’ petrol engines.

A new mini-Range Rover hybrid based on the LRX concept and powered by a 2.0-litre diesel is also planned.

Land Rover also has a ‘mild hybrid’ Range Rover Sport in development, with a super-capacitor for short-term electricity storage and a starter-generator that reclaims energy during engine braking.

JLR has also pledged to look at more extensive use of lightweight materials such as aluminium across the range.

Land Rover is set to make the next Range Rover and Sport with alloy bodyshells, and the new XE two-seat sports car is pencilled in as a variant of the next-generation alloy XK.

It is also anticipated that Jag will reconsider making the XF replacement in alloy, once the plan with the current model.

Another possibility is to ‘dress’ steel cars like the next-gen XF in alloy body panels. Doing so could shave around 100kg off the kerb weight.

Jaguar is apparently planning to attack the upstart Fisker Karma head on in a couple of years with an extended range electric version of the all-new XJ.

The completely reworked XJ is due to arrive in 2010 with a look heavily derived from the smaller XF.

A year later, the Indian owned British luxury maker will launch a plug-in version with 30 miles of electric only range that should help the big car get 47 mpg (US) (5 Lt. ) and a CO2 emissions rating of less than 120 g/km.

Jaguar will be able to introduce this new model now that it has approved for a new EU loan for developing greener cars. Jaguar already has an advantage over some of its competitors because the full-size XJ is comparatively light thanks to its aluminum construction. Lotus Engineering and Caparo are helping Jaguar with development of the ER-EV powertrain.

Additionally, Jaguar and Land Rover are also developing micro-hybrids, full parallel hybrids, smaller diesel engines, and boosted gas engines along with even more weight reductions for the full lineup.

An all-new Jaguar XJ will make its public debut in July 2009.

Speaking at Auto Shanghai 2009, Jaguar Cars Managing Director, Mike O'Driscoll confirmed that:

The all-new Jaguar XJ will go on sale at the end of 2009 - but will officially be revealed on July 9th in London.
The all-new Jaguar XJ is the first car to feature the next-generation of Jaguar's aerospace-inspired aluminium body architecture.
All of Jaguar's new ultra-efficient Gen III petrol and diesel engines will be available in the new XJ, including the already acclaimed V6 diesel and 510 bhp supercharged V8.
There will be a choice of standard- or long wheelbase models.
The all-new XJ will introduce the highest standards of personal luxury and specification, including a panoramic glass roof.
Full details of the all-new Jaguar XJ including prices will be revealed on July 9th, 2009 and orders for delivery in early 2010 will be taken from this time.

Meus caros, isso é o melhor que conseguiram? vejam lá estas: 





É um lindo carro, sem sombra para dúvidas, e ainda mais apelativo do que a concorrência, mas, na minha opinião, está para o XF como o A8 para o A6 e A4 (todos parecidos).

Estas já conhecia. Apenas a que eu eo o Miguel colocamos, ainda que em tópicos diferentes são oficiais fornecidas pela propria Jaguar, os restantes são foto shops!

Então fui ludibriado. Eles têm-na como sendo autênticas...

Wolf, essas de facto não são as fotografias reais (se olharmos para os farois traseiros vê-se isso). Uma vez mais foi a Auto Express com as suas "brincadeiras" previsões falhadas... As usual

Na realidade eles construiram essa imagem por estas duas:





O que eles fizeram foi inverter as imagens e deopis andaram a retocar. Se reparares, as linhas laterais, vidros, etc, são 100% iguais, e mesmo as partes inferiores do para-choques são também iguais. Unicamente deram-lhe uma nova traseira e coocaram os farois do Focus.
